Hailing from a humble background in Bihar, India, Anand Kumar was passionate about mathematics from an early age. Despite being accepted to Cambridge University, he couldn’t attend due to financial constraints. But rather than letting his dreams die, he redirected his passion toward helping others achieve theirs.
In 2002, he launched Super 30 — a revolutionary program that selects 30 bright students each year from underprivileged families and trains them free of cost for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) entrance exam, one of the toughest in the world.
Mr. Kumar went beyond just teaching formulas and equations. He nurtured confidence, resilience, and problem-solving in his students — many of whom came from villages with no access to proper schools or learning material.
Over the years, most of his Super 30 students cracked the IIT exams, went on to become engineers, and transformed the lives of their families and communities. His initiative has been recognized globally, and a Bollywood film titled “Super 30” was made to honor his work.
