In today's world, fostering creativity and artistic skills is as vital as nurturing academic prowess. At Accelerated High School, we believe in the holistic development of our students, integrating arts and crafts into our curriculum to enhance their creative thinking, fine motor skills, and emotional expression. Through art, students learn to see the world from multiple perspectives and express their unique viewpoints.
Mission:
All students will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to explore and express their creativity through various artistic media. By engaging in diverse arts and crafts activities, students will develop an understanding of color theory, shape manipulation, and artistic techniques that encourage personal expression and appreciation of visual aesthetics.

This course is designed to ignite a passion for creativity and artistic exploration. Through engaging projects and hands-on activities, students will:

The Grade 3 arts and crafts curriculum at AHS is designed in alignment with various educational standards, ensuring a comprehensive framework for student learning. Our curriculum emphasizes the exploration of fundamental artistic concepts while fostering critical thinking and creativity.
At its core, the curriculum emphasizes three essential dimensions: exploration, creativity, and skill development. Throughout the curriculum, students are actively engaged in discovering new techniques, expressing their creativity, and mastering basic artistic skills. This hands-on approach encourages students to develop a deeper appreciation for the arts and to express themselves confidently.
Three Dimensions of AHS Arts and Crafts Curriculum:
The performance expectations in arts and crafts reflect the three dimensions and describe what students should know and be able to do. They are written as statements that guide assessment and allow flexibility in how students can demonstrate proficiency.
Arts and Crafts Core Idea:
Understanding the key concepts of artistic expression and the use of various media to communicate ideas and emotions.

Standard 2: Clay Modeling.
Learning Objectives:
- Basic skills and an understanding of art-making and creative expression.
- Use of clay as a 3D medium using various tools or another suitable material.
- Identify different pieces of artwork in the world that are made out of clay.
- Display clay animals from literature in the library.

Standard 3: Introduction to Different Art Mediums.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe a pictured concept, imagination, or representation through the use of lines as expressed by a pencil, charcoal, wax crayon, or other mediums.
- Make an artwork using wet media such as tempera or watercolor paints.
- Paint with a medium most suited to give the finished product of art a distinct personality.
